A pharmaceutical researcher turned professional arboriculture specialist has won the coveted Royal Forestry Society(RFS)/ Lockhart Garratt Trophy after coming top in one of the industry’s most testing qualifications – the Level 6 PDArb.

Dr Richard Wilson changed career and set up C. Trees Ltd in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, with his wife Sally Worsley in 2007, offering quality arboricultural services. Both Richard and Sally originate from rural areas and  have owned and managed a small woodland in Pembrokeshire since 2005

To provide consultancy services, Richard, 43, decided to undertake the Level 6 PDArb , and said: “It gives you a very broad understanding of the many issues facing anyone involved in tree and  woodland management. It provides you with the tools you need to research and find information on a whole range of topics and to balance the many environmental, ecological and socioeconomic factors relevant to arboriculture in the 21st century. It is an excellent qualification for any professional working in the forestry industry.”

The award was presented at the Arboricultural Association National Amenity Conference at Exeter University.

Presenting the award, John Lockhart said: “It is always a real pleasure to present this award with an appreciation of how much study and dedication lies behind the achievement.   I look forward to following Richard’s career as it develops and wish him every success in the profession in the current challenging times for our precious tree resource.

“We are delighted to continue to offer our support to both the RFS and the AA and look forward to continuing to support this award into the future.”
